      From the research files of Carolyn Hewitt Fuerth: "At the residence of John Thompson Sr. Au Sable ( Michigan) on Thursday Sept 30, 1886 of malarial fever, Alexander Hewitt aged 27 years and three months. Funeral services held at the house at 2 pm Friday by Rev P.C. Goldie. Deceased was the youngest of seven children, one sister and five brothers. His parents and family all reside in Haliburton Co., Ont., with the exception of one brother Joseph, a son-in-law of Mr. Thompson. The death of this promising young man was rendered peculiarly sad by the circumstances surrounding it, which many understand.\"
