11 Bray Barnes Bray Barnes, 72, a longtime resident of Palo Alto, died Feb. 10.
He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and grew up in Toronto, Canada. He entered the United States Marine Corps at 17 years old and served for four years. He married Gloria Roseland in 1963 and they moved from Fort Wayne, Ind. to Palo Alto to raise their family.
His career had many occupations including: salesperson, entrepreneur and business owner, stockbroker and investment advisor. He was a member of 2nd Church Christ Scientist in Palo Alto and the Sierra Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, bicycling, racquetball and swimming. His primary passion was family and friendships. He was a dedicated and loving family man.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Barnes of Mountain View; sons, Gregg Barnes of San Diego and Grant Barnes of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; daughter, Elizabeth Crowley of Santa Cruz; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be private. Donations in his memory can be made to Twelveacres, Inc. -- which provides care for developmentally disabled adults -- 595 Millich Drive, #104, Campbell, 95008.

20 Elva Louise Land, age 104, died Thursday, May 16, 2013.
Eva was born to Herbert and Violet (Sisson) Fry July 31, 1908 in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
She had 6 sisters and 2 brothers, three who are still living in Canada. She moved to Flint April 1927; married Jay Land March 1, 1930. He died in 1959. Two children preceded Elva in death - Evelyn in 1934 and Danny in 1985.

Elva was employed by GM at AC for 36 years, retiring in 1971. She became a US citizen in 1947.

Her nephew and wife, Jack and Maria Fry have continued to be supportive and helpful with her care and whatever she needed or requested throughout her later years.
Elva liked to knit and crochet until Macular Degeneration caused her to stop due to failing eyesight.
In her younger years she was active fishing and hunting with her husband. She also
enjoyed watching sports on TV.

Elva leaves her nephew, Jack Fry (Maria); sisters, Phyllis Jones, Mary Bain, and Phrona Cooper of Canada; 6 grand daughters, Shelly Langman (FL), Carman Phillips (Flushing), Carleen Campbell (Canada), Acacia, Cathy, Christi Land (OR); great grandchildren.

Her ashes will be buried in Maple Lake, Ontario, Canada.

21 FAIRFIELD, DAVID JAMES David James Fairfield, (longtime employee of G.H. Stewart Construction Inc. Orillia). Passed away peacefully at the Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Orillia on Monday, July 12, 2010 at the age of 60. Beloved son of Jean and Jim Fairfield of Gravenhurst, dear brother of Linell Fairfield of Orangeville, uncle of Alyssa (Scott) Elstone, Meghan (Sean) Wellsbury, and great uncle to Seth and Diamond. Loving father of Fred (Karen) of Sudbury and Doug (Brenda) of Brampton. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Craig (Julie), Melissa (Mike), Andrew (Colleen) and by his great grandchildren Ethan, Ryan and Nathan. Predeceased by his brother Eric and his sister Geraldine. Howard was born and raised in Haliburton County, then moved to Huntsville to work as a lumber grader and then moved back to Haliburton in his retirement years where he frequented the Kozy Korner after Church each Sunday.
